A motorist has been arrested for impaired driving east of Pembroke as the OPP’s Festive RIDE campaign continues.
According to a new press release from the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP detachment, officers received a report of a possible impaired driver on Saturday, November 29th at roughly 7:40 p.m. east of the city.
Police located the driver on Pembroke Street East in the township of Laurentian Valley and took him into custody for testing at the detachment.
As a result, a 69-year-old Whitewater Region resident is facing charges of impaired driving, driving with a blood-alcohol concentration over the legal limit, failing to surrender an insurance card, failing to produce a vehicle permit and driving with an open container of liquor.
The accused was reportedly released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court in early January. In the meantime, they’ve had their licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded for seven.
According to the detachment, during the second week of the Festive RIDE campaign which ran from November 27th to December 3rd, officers conducted 31 RIDE checkpoints in the Upper Ottawa Valley region, including two conducted alongside the Deep River Police Service.
One driver has had their license suspended for three days for registering in the warn range during a roadside screening, and a suspended driver was also charged at a RIDE checkpoint in the area.
