Wondering what to get your landlord for Christmas?
Consider a quantity of CO alarms!
Fire code changes effective January 1st will require Carbon monoxide (CO) alert detectors in multi-unit residential buildings starting January 1st.
The provisos are: if the premises has a fuel-burning appliance, is located proximal to a garage, or a service room with a fuel burning appliance- OR is heated by air from a fuel burning appliance located external to your suite.
The same applies to hallways heated by a remote feul-burning source.
Building owners and landlords are responsible for installing and maintaining these alarms in all required locations, including individual rental suites.
