For many of us, grocery shopping involves a trip to the local massive chain store with aisles a mile long and rarely a smile on anyone’s face to be seen.
Then there is Bruham Food Mart in Pembroke.
Amanda Stevens has been the Owner of Bruham for the past 12 years and one of the things she prides herself on is trying to get to know every customer by name. Following in the footsteps of her father who owned the business 30 years prior, Amanda and her husband who were living in Yellowknife at the time bought the business and never looked back:
The 5,000 square foot store is best known for it’s fresh meat offerings and its baked goods that can be smelled well before entering the front door. Stevens has a wide range of offerings in the store but she knows what most of her customers come to her specifically for:
I asked Amanda what a day in the life of her looks like and we got onto the topic of bologna as an example of the “A to Z” service that she herself, along with her staff, offer her customers:
Amanda says that the COVID period was really difficult not solely because of the illness itself but the fact that it took away from the closeness she had with her customers and that was very hard for her to deal with:
Amanda is sure that as long as she continues to feel the warmth of the staff and customers that this is what she will be doing for the remainder of her working days.
A special thank you to Amanda Stevens for taking the time to share her story with us as we continue to celebrate Small Business Week.
