It’s almost time for the annual “Walk For Her” which will take place once again at the Shady Nook Recreation Centre on Saturday October, 4th from 11AM to 4PM.
There are many reasons why people take part in the annual walk during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and no two women who do take part are alike. Nevertheless, the goal remains the same; Ending breast cancer.
Monica McGinnis is a U13 girls hockey coach and this year she and her Team decided to do something to mark the occasion and the idea that was raised is definitely an interesting one. Monica Explains:
This is the fourth time Monica has donated her hair for the creation of wigs for cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy and experiencing hair loss. Its really a “win-win” she says and it gives her team a chance to further bond over an incredibly worthwhile endeavour.
Last years walk raised well over $30,000 locally and Monica’s Team the Ottawa Valley Thunder hopes to have at least $1,000 to put towards this years take. Monica is very prepared for another very important haircut and her teammates are trying to figure out who will get to do the honours!
Come on out on Saturday, October 4th and support a more than worthy cause as will hundreds of others who will unite to end breast cancer once and for all.
