Throughout this past week we have introduced you to a number of the main functions and the people behind them of the Royal Canadian Legion as a means of highlighting it’s importance to the very fabric of Canadian life.
Chapter 72 President Stan Halliday has been in a leadership role with the RCL for as long as he or anyone can remember. He has been right across the Valley and has been the President of this Branch since 2017.
When asked what the most important aspect of his job is. Halliday gave us a truly no nonsense answer:
Halliday makes no bones about the fact that they are there by the community and for the community and little else is as important as that. Certain projects he and his people have been involved in come to mind more readily than others according to him:
Chris Thorbourne Sgt -At -Arms for Chapter 72 wears a number of different hats but primarily he is responsible for coordinating official functions as he explains:
As a self proclaimed military minded man who served for seven years in Petawawa, Thorbourne identifies with the community so closely entwined with service that being with the Legion is really the only thing he says that makes everything worthwhile.
Community is the word that I found permeated every conversation I was privileged enough to have with all of the Legion folks who collectively keep this Chapter together.
