The Pembroke Community Watch Program is one of those grass roots organizations that thrives on community involvement to the extent that it wouldn’t exist without it.
Organizer Steve Halpenny is very much aware of this and is always on the lookout for new members to help keep an eye on Pembroke’s many neighborhoods.
The program is entering its fifth year here in Pembroke and at a public meeting earlier this month, Steve had a chance to appeal to residents to become involved in the program.
With backing by the OPP and The City of Pembroke, the whole idea according to Halpenny is to create a “team effort” when keeping an eye on the community as opposed to emphasizing an individual effort:
The program currently covers 8 blocks in the city and Steve says that three additional blocks have expressed an interested in joining the effort. It’s a trend in the right direction, says Halpenny, who hopes that interest will continue to widen:
