The County of Renfrew has approved its 2025 budget, totaling $236 million in expenditures. The approval came during a workshop on February 6, led by Councillors Jennifer Murphy and David Mayville, Chair and Vice-Chair of the Corporate Services Committee of the Whole. The new structure allowed all County Council members to review and discuss departmental budgets ahead of the meeting.
Chair Murphy thanked colleagues for their engagement in the process, which focuses on both current and future needs. With the budget in place, the County will continue essential programs while funding key service improvements, including the Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) Hub, a Regional Incentive Program for affordable housing, and $66.5 million for capital asset renewal. Plans also include constructing new housing units, opening two new paramedic bases, and expanding the Algonquin Trail.
The 2025 County levy will increase by 5.5%, equating to an additional $22.87 in residential property taxes per $100,000 of assessed value. For the average homeowner in Renfrew County, with a median residential value of $216,000, this means paying approximately $940 in County taxes.
Tax dollars will support vital services, such as long-term care facilities, paramedic services, community housing, and public works. The County also manages over 1,000 rent-geared-to-income housing units and continues to maintain roads, bridges, and trails.
Warden Peter Emon emphasized the budget’s role in investing in the community’s future, balancing fiscal responsibility with meeting residents’ needs. Chair Murphy acknowledged the challenges of balancing immediate demands with long-term goals, confident the budget reflects the County’s vision and responsibilities.
The 2025 budget was adopted as a by-law immediately after the workshop, ensuring Renfrew County can continue delivering services and planning for future growth.
