The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation is thrilled to announce the return of their highly anticipated annual fundraising event, the “Heroes Run for Healthcare,” proudly presented by Canadian Nuclear Laboratories. Now in its 3rd year, this community-driven initiative is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 11th, in the downtown area of Pembroke.
The event, consisting of a 2km hero-themed kids’ run and a 5km community run, aims to unite the community in a collective effort to support local healthcare initiatives. Planning Committee Chair Scott Coombes shared his excitement, stating, “This hero-themed event has become a cherished tradition, rallying our community each spring to contribute to the betterment of local healthcare.”
Funds raised from this year’s Heroes Run for Healthcare will be directed towards addressing the Pembroke Regional Hospital’s highest-priority equipment needs, ensuring that cutting-edge healthcare remains accessible locally. Roger Martin, Executive Director of the PRH Foundation, emphasized the significance of the event in sustaining state-of-the-art healthcare within the community.
The 2km hero-themed kids’ run, generously sponsored by Mike’s Hardware – Doors & So Much More, promises a delightful experience for participants aged 12 and under. Leigh Costello, PRHF Community Fundraising Specialist, highlighted the festivities, including treats, superhero meet-and-greets, and personalized superhero capes. Registration for kids is $10, and accompanying guardians can join the run at no charge.
Tammy Blackmore, Kids’ Run Organizer, encouraged participants to don their superhero costumes, embrace their superpowers, and make a difference for local healthcare. Blackmore shared, “Meet many of your favourite superheroes during our 2km themed family run. You will receive a bag at the start line to collect treats from superheroes along the route. When you complete your 2k mission, you will receive a superhero cape.”
Participants in the 5km timed run are urged to fundraise and gather pledges in support of the Pembroke Regional Hospital. Notably, the top fundraiser stands a chance to win a prize valued at $500, and all participants raising over $100 will be entered into a draw for 2024 Ottawa Bluesfest passes.
Registration for the event is open, with pricing set at $30/person for the 5km timed run and $10/child for the 2km hero-themed fun run. A special group rate of $150 is available for schools, youth organizations, corporate groups, and sports teams participating in the 5K run.
