For a time Thursday it seemed scary- but things could have been much worse.
The Pembroke Fire Department responded to a commercial vehicle on fire on Mackay Street about 130PM this afternoon.
Initially, only on duty personnel were assigned, but due to the heat, back up firefighters and volunteer firefighters were called to the scene.
The fire, however, was extinguished by responding personnel.
On arrival the crew discovered the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames, and communication lines above it were burning as well.
Department personnel quickly brought the blaze under control, but a minor leak of product aboard saw the MOE notified and containment measures enacted.
Chief Selle reports all runoff of the product, including contaminated water from extinguishing efforts was contained.
There were no injuries resulting from the fire.
Ottawa River Power assessed the power lines and determined these were not affected, and a damage assessment of the communication lines continues.
The City of Pembroke Operations Department provided road closures and assisted in spill containment and mitigation.
PFD has begun an investigation into the cause and origins of the fire.
