Forests Ontario will be working with private landowners to plant trees in the Ottawa Valley
CEO Rob Keen says the not-for-profit organization are in the area over the next few weeks working with landowners and local municipalities.
Keen says their initiative is to plant 50 million trees across the province, with 2.4 million already planted in the Ottawa Valley alone since 2007.
He adds that making it affordable for the landowners to plant trees on their property can help the local milling industry, who rely on lumber and materials close to home.
Keen was quick to mention that the positives of planting more trees goes past just the economic boost for the milling industry.
Forests Ontario have able to help mitigate the costs landowners would face while of planting trees thanks to recent support from both the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and local wood mills, which Keen says they’re incredibly thankful for.
To donate, volunteer, or inquire about how you can plant trees on your own privately owned land, more information can be found on the Forests Ontario website.
