The City of Pembroke Operations Department is expanding traffic control around Holy Name School. In a report to the city council, the department is going to install signage in the area of the school zone bordered by First Avenue, Mary Street, and Trafalgar Road. The move comes after staff investigated the area after concerns regarding the speed of traffic in the school zone.
It has been identified that the following signage is required to supplement signage already in place:
-School Zone with Max Speed 40km/h on both Trafalgar Road and Mary Street
-School Zone with Max Speed 40km/h on the west side of First Avenue north of Holy Name School
-School Zone ends Trafalgar Road northbound
-Stop sign at First Avenue and Front Street.
Operations staff also plan to place speed display signage in the area again, in various locations, to obtain additional data and monitor the area. The department will consult with the OPP through the Police Services Board on reports of incidents along Mary Street.
The costs for signage will be covered under the Department’s regular Operation and Maintenance accounts.
