The Town of Petawawa will support the City of Pembroke as they apply for grant funding for a new pool. The City of Pembroke is applying for a green and inclusive community building program grant to help build a new aquatics facility. A letter from the City of Pembroke indicates 12 percent of the annual swim permits at the Kinsmen Pool are from Petawawa. There is no financial commitment for the Town of Petawawa.
On Monday night (February 6th, 2023), all councillors supported sending a letter of support to the City of Pembroke for the grant application. Councillor Theresa Sabourin says the initiative can only benefit the community at large. Councillor James Carmody was happy to support the letter going to Pembroke. Councillor Murray Rutz commented this would help promote a healthy lifestyle in Renfrew County. Councillor Lisa Coutu says the existing facilities in Pembroke are aging and would benefit from an upgrade. Mayor Gary Serviss noted while there is a pool on base at Dundonald Hall, people in Petawawa would make use of a new facility in Pembroke.
In 2019, Petawawa council provided a similar letter of support for a new pool, however at the time, the city did not receive any funding.
