The Town of Petawawa has approved the 2023 budget which includes $21.5-million in spending. A budget workshop was held in January and council passed the budget on Monday night (February 6th, 2023). The budget indicates while Petawawa will spend $21.5-million dollars this year, revenue from taxation, permits, facilities rentals and other sources will balance everything out with $21.5-million expected to come in.
AVERAGE PETAWAWA RESIDENT WILL PAY $71.92 MORE FOR TAXES IN 2023
Mayor Gary Serviss says the impact to local residents will be $27.24 for every $100,000 of property assessment. With the average residence in Petawawa assessed at $264,000 that works out to an increase in $71.92 for municipal taxes in 2023.
MONEY WILL BE SPENT ON ROADS, POLICE, FIRE, PARKS/RECREATION & MORE
Serviss says in 2023, the Town of Petawawa will spend around $2.8-million on roads with work planed on Hilda Street/Lisa Crescent, Wolfe Avenue, Florence Street and Black Bay Road. The Public Works department will also purchase a new plow grader truck, while the the fire department will get new bunker gear and a water rescue boat with money placed into reserves for a new pumper truck.
The Community Services Department has budgeted to improve the streetscape and entrance at the Petawawa Point. The bleachers will be upgraded at the main field of the Petawawa Civic Centre at the Civic Centre Arena and tennis courts will have the lighting upgraded to LED. Other projects in 2023 will see the Laurentian Highlands playground completed, a new recreation trail will be developed from Murphy Road to the Radke Estates subdivision, a comfort station will be built along the Algonquin Trail and a new park will be built on the Petawawa River at Wilson Avenue.
Serviss says the Town of Petawawa will spend over $7-million on water and sewer projects in 2023 with system upgrades. A net zero project at the Petawawa Water Pollution Control Plant will also continue in 2023.

- Transportation – $6.9-million (including $887,882 for Hilda Street/Lisa Crescent, $703,000 for Wolfe Avenue, $177,500 for Florence Street, $158,450 for Black Bay Road, $70,000 for sidewalk construction, $195,000 for active transportation construction $500,000 for vehicles, $199,000 for equipment and $530,000 for storm sewers)
