Two events have been cancelled in Pembroke due to the ice conditions. Dan Callaghan, one of the organizers of the Polar Bear Dip and Manager of the Pembroke and Laurentian Valley Handi-Bus, says the City of Pembroke Operations Department took two drilling samples and determined the ice was not in good condition. City staff say it’s unsafe to put heavy equipment on the ice. Callaghan says the ice at the ramp was not in good condition either so it has been determined that the event this year will be cancelled. The Polar Dip was supposed to be part of SnoSpree on February 5th at the Pembroke Marina and is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Handi-Bus. City staff have also confirmed the Kids Ice Fishing Derby on Sunday February 5th at the Marina has been cancelled. All other events as part of SnoSpree are still scheduled to go ahead.
