Ice will not be going in at the Beachburg Arena this winter. Whitewater Region Mayor Neil Nicholson says it’s a combination of three factors including costs, demand for ice-time and staffing.
Nicholson says it was a tough decision that council made. A recent report presented to council shows the Beachburg Arena needs $2.5-million in repairs and Nicholson says it would have cost roughly $60,000 to put the ice in this year.
The Mayor says they have outdoor rinks in Westmeath, Foresters Falls and adds the Township would support the recreation association in Beachburg if they wanted to create an outdoor rink.
Nicholson says the Township will look at options for the Beachburg Arena when council reviews the strategic plan in 2023.
