Papa Walks again! Russell Mackay, known as Papa to many in the Beachburg area, has done a pair of marathon walks for CHEO over the years, raisings 10’s of thousands of dollars. Now, Mackay is walking 75 km in support of SickKids beginning today. His daughter Crystal breaks it down for us.
Crystal also tells us he has a big fundraising goal.
The SickKids hospital is close to the family.
“Everyone can do something to help other people,” Mr. Mackay shared. “And we can all use a little more help and good news than usual these days. This is my small way of helping the many kids and families who rely on SickKids Hospital.” Russell started visiting an eye specialist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) about 15 years ago when he lost his sight due to diabetes. He vowed to do what he could to help children in both Ottawa and Toronto hospitals. Individual donations and corporate support welcome. He walked from his hometown Beachburg to Ottawa in 2020 with incredible support adding up to over $120,000 in donations.
