The Waterfront Park in Pembroke is now officially a community watch zone. Captain of the new neighbourhood watch zone and co-chair of the Community Watch Program Brian Abdallah says they are looking to make Pembroke more safe and welcoming.
The new community watch zone runs from Algonquin College to the Pembroke Marina.
Chair of the Waterfront Park Committee, Fred Blackstein, says over the years there’s been some instances of vandalism, adding with the continued investment in the area it seemed like the right time to move to a community watch zone.
Chair of the Pembroke Police Services Board Ron Gervais says there are now three community watch zones in the city with others around the Victoria Centre and Chamberlain Street.
Neighbourhood watch block captain Debbie Andrews says it’s easy to get signed up and adds they’ve noticed a decrease in suspicious activity since the signs went up around their home in Pembroke last year.
There will be a public meeting hosted at the Riverwalk Amphitheater on August 27th at 11:00am to introduce the Community Watch program to any new members who would like to join the Pembroke Waterfront Park Community Watch Zone.
