Local seventh- and eighth-grade students set to attend Opeongo High School in the future will have an opportunity to tour the facility and learn what it’ll be like to study there in a few weeks.
The latest annual ‘Wildcub Day’ is coming up at the school on Wednesday, November 4th. The initiative will see students from Eganville and District Public School and Cobden District Public School brought in for a day of onboarding and workshops with high school teachers and classes.
Dylan Renals, a student in the school’s leadership program helping to facilitate this year’s event, says it dates back to roughly a decade ago.
Renals says the program is meant to help these young students get comfortable in a high school environment before they start attending regularly.
Kids who will be taking part in the event can sign up for a variety of workshops being held at the school throughout the day.
According to Renals, his experience at Wildcub Day when he was younger helped ease his worries about transitioning to the high school curriculum.
Renals looks forward to meeting all the incoming students at Wildcub Day. He also reminds parents that lunch will be provided to all attendees.
