Pembroke residents may hear a series of loud booms Saturday evening as Canadian Armed Forces personnel conduct a ceremonial gun salute at the Pembroke Armoury.
The Department of National Defence says members of the 42nd Field Artillery Regiment (Lanark and Renfrew Scottish), Royal Canadian Artillery, will carry out the salute on Oct. 24 as part of the Royal Canadian Artillery Association Conference.
The activity will take place within the armoury compound and will be completed before 9 p.m.
Officials say the noise will come from the firing of blank ammunition and stress that the activity is planned and controlled, with trained personnel following established safety procedures.
There is no cause for public concern, according to the announcement.
The 42nd Field Artillery Regiment is based in Pembroke and is one of three artillery units within 33 Canadian Brigade Group, which serves northern, central and eastern Ontario.
The regiment includes full-time and part-time members of both the Regular Force and the Army Reserve.
Military officials thanked local residents for their patience and understanding as the regiment carries out the ceremonial activity in the community it serves.
