A 41-year-old Head-Clara-Maria Township resident is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly fleeing from police at a RIDE checkpoint.
The Upper Ottawa Valley Ontario Provincial Police say officers observed a vehicle that appeared to avoid a RIDE program in the township at about 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Police stopped the vehicle a short distance away, but say a foot chase with the driver followed. The driver was arrested and taken to the detachment for testing.
The accused faces charges of flight from a peace officer, impaired operation of a vehicle by alcohol, and driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit.
Police say the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Nov. 24.
The OPP says it conducts RIDE programs throughout the year, at all hours, to help keep roads safe.
