Pembroke has proclaimed Oct. 1 as Care for Seniors Day, recognizing the contributions of older adults to the community and highlighting a campaign to support seniors’ well-being.
Mayor Ron Gervais issued the proclamation, which notes the role seniors play as community leaders, caregivers and volunteers, while also recognizing the physical, emotional and financial challenges that can come with aging.
The day also marks the launch of the Care for Seniors with Melanie campaign, led by Carefor retirement home resident Melanie Freeman. The campaign aims to raise money to support recreation and wellness programming at the Carefor Civic Complex and Mackay Centre retirement care homes.
The city says support from the community can help provide additional recreation, wellness and health-related opportunities for residents at the facilities.
The proclamation also notes that improving the health and well-being of older adults contributes to the broader health and well-being of the community.
