An agreement between the City of Pembroke and the Pembroke Royals that will provide the foundation for the start of the season and give a presence in the community.
The deal comes just before the home opener on Sunday against the Brockville Braves and Royals owner Brian Johnstone says he’s pleased that discussions were productive and looks forward to continued collaboration.
“We’re very pleased to have everything finalized, and we’re excited about the season ahead,” he says. “We appreciate the work that went into us getting here, and we look forward to building a great partnership with the city.
“Most importantly, we’re looking forward to getting the season underway and welcoming everyone to the home opener on Sunday.”
City of Pembroke chief administrative officer David Unrau says reaching the agreement that worked was a very important step in the discussions.
“It was important that we reached an agreement that worked for the hockey club while also being financially responsible for our residents,” Unrau says. “We believe this agreement achieves that balance and provides an opportunity for the Royals to establish themselves and succeed in Pembroke.”
The Royals are a new Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) franchise.
