Pembroke firefighters responded to a house fire on Isabella Street late Wednesday night.
The Pembroke Fire Department says crews were called to the 400 block of Isabella Street at about 11:30 p.m. One truck and the duty crew were initially dispatched, with additional resources requested while firefighters were en route.
The west side of the home was heavily involved in fire when crews arrived, with flames extending up the exterior and into the eaves.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the main body of the fire before entering the home to confirm that all occupants had evacuated safely.
The fire had spread through the eaves and into the roof structure, requiring firefighters to remove portions of the second-floor ceiling to reach and extinguish remaining fire in the roof space.
The fire department says all smoke alarms in the home were working and alerted the occupants to the fire.
A total of 12 firefighters responded, along with a pumper, aerial truck and utility truck and trailer.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
The fire department says most fires are preventable and reminds residents that working smoke alarms can save lives.
