City of Pembroke officials used the Association of Municipalities of Ontario’s annual conference this week to press provincial ministries on several issues they say are important to the community and the broader Ottawa Valley region.
Mayor Ron Gervais, Deputy Mayor Brian Abdallah and chief administrative officer Dave Unrau met with provincial representatives to discuss a proposed regional model for municipal water and wastewater services, energy concerns and support for a regional energy plan.
The delegation also raised concerns about emergency room physician staffing.
The meetings were held alongside representatives from the Townships of Whitewater, Laurentian Valley and Bonnechere Valley, as well as the towns of Deep River and Petawawa and Pembroke Regional Hospital.
The municipalities and hospital presented their concerns jointly, which the City says gives the region a stronger voice when advocating to the province.
Pembroke officials say they will continue discussions with provincial representatives in an effort to advance the issues and improve services and conditions across the region.
