Sunday at Petawawa Point Beach, it was all about wagging tails, paddlers and family fun as the sixth annual Ottawa Valley Doggy Paddle took place under a beautiful late-summer sky.
Organized by the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Renfrew County Animal Centre, the event was part of the 2026 Water and Dirt Festival, which kicked off last weekend. Water and Dirt Festival organizer Colin Coyle was on hand Sunday, taking it all in, and says that despite some iffy weather here and there, things have been going very smoothly with so many events taking place this year.
Heather Jobe of the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre worked tirelessly for weeks to get set for the big day Sunday, and she was thrilled with the turnout this year.
One of the highlights of the day was the community relay race, where teams competed for the coveted Golden Paddle Award. Last year, the award went to NS Contracting, but this year it went to title sponsor Pet Valu Pembroke and Petawawa, with the team from myFM finishing a close second.
For the entry fee, each member of every team enjoyed a gentle social paddle, an event swag bag, a catered lunch and an exclusive event T-shirt. Congratulations to everyone who participated.
