Construction season is about to hit its peak across the Ottawa Valley.
The County of Renfrew’s Public Works teams expect to add four new roadwork projects to an already busy 2026 construction schedule, which includes the rehabilitation of 49 kilometres of road and 10 bridges and culverts, as well as the construction of 10 kilometres of the Algonquin Trail and the re-decking of 3 trail bridges.
Among the new projects will be a culvert replacement on Raglan Street South, 90 meters south of Highway 60, expected to start August 17 and be completed August 31. The road will be closed to all traffic, including pedestrians, with a signed detour in place during construction.
Construction on the O’Grady Bridge, on O’Grady Settlement Road in Killaloe, Hagarty, and Richards, is also expected to begin on August 17. The road will remain closed until the completion of the project in late September.
Work on the Danny Constant Bridge in Bonnechere Valley Township is expected to begin September 1 and continue through mid-October. The bridge and roadway will remain closed throughout construction, with no pedestrian access available.
Crews will also be present on Ruby Road, from Wolfe Road to Zadow Road, starting on September 8 until late October. Traffic on parts of Ruby Road will be limited to one lane during construction, directed by lights or workers on site.
Several road improvement projects are already underway across the county.
Construction on River Road and Castleford Road in Horton Township will limit traffic to a single lane at times until work is completed in mid-August.
Doran Road in Laurentian Valley will also be limited to a single lane until completion of construction between Highway 17 and Forest Lea Road in late August. Witt Road may require multi-day closures at times as construction between Woito Station Road and Doran Road continues until early September.
Also in Laurentian Valley, an ongoing project at the Turcotte Bridge, about 2.2 kilometres northeast of Micksburg Road, will close the road to all traffic until completion in mid-September.
Brushing and culvert replacements have been completed on Calabogie Road in Greater Madawaska and McNab/Braeside. The remainder of the project, from Fleming Road to Burnstown Road, is expected to start August 17. Construction on the Waba Creek Bridge in McNab/Braeside will continue until its completion in early September, with the road closed to all traffic until August 28.
Work continues on Chenaux Road in Whitewater Road, impacting traffic from Highway 17 to Camp Galilee Lane until late August, while construction at the Broomes Creek Culvert and Dam is expected to finish by mid-August.
County officials are reminding motorists to slow down, obey posted signage, and use extra caution when travelling through active construction zones this summer.
