The City of Pembroke and the Renfrew County and District Health Unit are urging residents and business owners to take proactive steps to reduce rodent activity by eliminating sources of food, water and shelter around their properties.
Officials say proper waste storage, regular yard maintenance and sealing entry points into buildings are among the most effective ways to discourage rodents. Residents are also encouraged to use rodent-resistant compost bins, remove debris where pests may nest and avoid leaving pet food or birdseed outdoors.
Property owners are responsible for maintaining their properties to prevent infestations and may be subject to municipal property standards and nuisance by-laws if conditions contribute to rodent activity.
