Charges have been laid after a highway traffic stop led to a growing list of charges for the people involved.
Members of the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP were conducting proactive traffic enforcement along Highway 60 on the evening of Monday, July 20, when they stopped a vehicle travelling 120 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.
During their investigation, the officers determined that the driver, a 38-year-old from Wilno, was both prohibited from operating a motor vehicle and had consumed alcohol.
As a result, the driver was charged with the following:
- Operating while prohibited under the Criminal Code
- Operating while impaired
- Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (120 km/h in an 80 km/h zone)
- Failing to surrender insurance card
- Failing to surrender a permit for a motor vehicle
The accused is scheduled to appear in court in connection to the charges on August 18. In addition, their driver’s license was suspended for 90 days, and their vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
Officers also determined that the passenger of the vehicle, a 36-year-old from Killaloe, had breached court-imposed conditions. They were held in custody pending a bail hearing for failing to comply with a release order.
