A celebration of the heritage and culture of local Indigenous peoples is coming up in just a few weeks.
The Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation’s 37th annual pow-wow is scheduled for August 15th and 16th this year.
Communications and public relations lead Kyle Robinson says the annual festival is an opportunity to showcase everything the First Nation represents.
Robinson says the event will feature three “grand entry” ceremonies – one at noon on the 15th, another later that day at 7:00 p.m. and another at noon on the 16th.
Everything at the pow-wow is exciting, but Robinson says there is one specific aspect he’s looking forward to first and foremost: the food.
Robinson says huge crowds of people from all walks of life attend the pow-wow each year, and he encourages everyone to attend and have fun.
