A young local boxer has notched another win in what his coach is calling an impressive streak following an event in Ottawa.
Ben Lafrance, a member of the Pembroke Boxing Club, took part in a youth boxing event organized by Ottawa Fight and Fitness on Saturday, July 18th.
According to coach Jason Burgoyne, the 12-year-old Lafrance has been eagerly looking for a match ever since the 2026 Brampton Cup, one of the largest boxing events of the year, where he won a match.
Burgoyne says the event was an exciting opportunity for the fighters, with lasers and fog from smoke machines accompanying them to the ring to drum up the excitement. He added that Lafrance fought well.
Lafrance has been very happy with himself since earning the win, Burgoyne says, explaining that his background in hockey gave him a strong mindset for boxing.
For Lafrance’s next match, he and Burgoyne currently have their sights set on Boxing Ontario’s annual Novice Tournament, which is scheduled to take place from August 21st to 23rd in London, Ontario.
