Here’s a look at what’s going on in the town for the next 48 hours!
The middle of the week offers a little bit of everything across Pembroke and Petawawa, from celebrating local history to enjoying live music by the waterfront, getting out on the water or finding activities for the whole family.
Wednesday is highlighted by a milestone event for the City of Pembroke. The Pembroke 200th Anniversary Launch Event gets underway in the evening, officially kicking off the community’s journey toward its bicentennial celebrations in 2028. Residents are invited to learn more about the plans for Pembroke 200 while enjoying anniversary displays, remarks from community leaders, complimentary cake and a ceremonial performance by the 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Pipes and Drums. It’s a chance to reflect on the city’s past while getting excited about its future.
Earlier in the day, downtown Pembroke offers a pair of great stops. The Music Café provides a relaxed afternoon with music, conversation and refreshments, while the Pembroke Farmers’ Market fills the downtown with fresh local produce, baked goods, handcrafted items, flowers and products from area vendors.
Across the river in Petawawa, families have no shortage of activities. The Petawawa Public Library’s Baby Time program introduces infants and caregivers to songs, rhymes and early literacy, while Family Play Troop through EarlyON gives young children a chance to learn and socialize through play. Jolly Phonics continues helping children develop reading skills, Hello Haul – Resources for All: Summer Edition connects families with community supports, and additional games and activities continue throughout the day at the South Side Community Centre.
Thursday shifts the focus outdoors. During the day, Petawawa’s Kayak Paddle Clinic gives paddlers an opportunity to improve their skills and confidence on the water with guided instruction. The community also continues offering Family Play Troop, Jolly Phonics, Hello Haul – Resources for All: Summer Edition, children’s summer programming at the Petawawa Public Library, and additional family-focused activities at the South Side Community Centre.
Thursday evening wraps up with another free performance in Pembroke’s popular Waterfront LIVE! series. Wilson Delcourt takes the stage at the Riverwalk Amphitheatre with an evening of adult contemporary music overlooking the Ottawa River. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy another relaxing summer concert in one of the city’s favourite outdoor gathering places.
Whether you’re celebrating Pembroke’s history, shopping local, spending time with the kids, learning a new skill or simply enjoying live music beside the river, there are plenty of ways to make the most of the next 48 hours.
