The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police says six drivers are facing stunt driving charges after being stopped for excessive speeds across the region over an 11-day period.
The incidents occurred between June 22 and July 3 in Laurentian Valley Township, Pembroke, North Algona Wilberforce Township, Madawaska Valley Township and Laurentian Hills Township.
Police say the first driver was stopped shortly after 8:30 a.m. on June 22 after allegedly travelling 138 kilometres an hour in an 80 km/h zone on Greenwood Road in Laurentian Valley Township.
Later that day, just after 1 p.m., another driver was stopped on Boundary Road in Pembroke after allegedly travelling 107 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone.
On June 23, officers stopped a vehicle on Highway 60 in North Algona Wilberforce Township after it was recorded travelling 97 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
A fourth driver was charged on the morning of June 27 after police say a vehicle was travelling 135 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 60 in Madawaska Valley Township.
Police also allege a driver was clocked at 180 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone on Highway 17 in Laurentian Hills Township shortly before midnight on June 28.
The final incident occurred just before 4 p.m. on July 3, when officers stopped a vehicle on B Line Road in Laurentian Valley Township after it was allegedly travelling 95 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
Under Ontario’s stunt driving legislation, each of the six drivers received a 30-day licence suspension and had their vehicle impounded for 14 days. All have been issued summonses to appear in Provincial Offences Court at a later date.
