The new Tower C entrance at Pembroke Regional Hospital is helping to reduce congestion and make it safer and easier for people to come and go from the facility, according to its president and CEO.
A grand opening event was held for the new entrance on June 10th. In a new interview, Sabine Mersmann says that prior to it being opened, most people used the emergency department entrance, which made it the most congested area in the facility.
Another goal of the new entrance was to make sure people’s first impressions when they arrive at the hospital are welcoming, rather than chaotic and busy.
It’s also made aspects of the facility, including Mulvahill Drug Mart, more accessible for people with mobility issues, Mersmann says.
The new entrance also contains a waiting area for visitors to sit and relax while their loved ones receive treatment or undergo testing elsewhere in the hospital.
According to Mersmann, planning for the new entrance can be traced all the way back to initial talks to move Mulvahill Drug Mart elsewhere within the hospital, which she says date back as far as 20 years ago.
Mersmann says more work needs to be done, with her team looking into moving the Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation into the new entrance area and creating a better walkway from the parking lot.
