More than 70 community leaders from across Renfrew County gathered earlier this month to discuss ways to address shared challenges and improve community well-being through greater collaboration.
The third annual Community Leadership Exchange, held June 2, brought together representatives from sectors including health care, housing, social services, education, economic development, municipal government, business, transportation, child care, seniors’ services and community organizations.
Participants took part in discussions focused on issues affecting residents throughout the county and explored opportunities for coordinated solutions and stronger partnerships.
The event was moderated by Jodi Bucholtz of Algonquin College’s Pembroke Waterfront Campus.
Organizers said the forum was designed to encourage leaders to move beyond individual organizational priorities and examine how community partners can work together to address complex and interconnected challenges.
Discussions highlighted the need for community-focused approaches, improved communication between sectors and collaborative efforts that build on existing resources and strengths.
“The strength of our communities lies in our ability to work together,” organizers said in a statement. “By bringing diverse leaders to the same table, we can better understand shared challenges, identify opportunities for collaboration, and develop solutions that create meaningful and lasting impact.”
Participants also committed to advancing the priorities identified during the exchange and ensuring discussions lead to measurable outcomes. Organizers said those priorities will be reviewed, monitored and evaluated as partners continue to work together on future initiatives.
Among the key issues identified were affordability and the rising cost of living, access to health care and mental health supports, transportation and rural connectivity, affordable workforce housing, preventative wellness and recreation, workforce attraction and retention, community inclusion, and improved coordination of services.
Organizers said the priorities will help guide future collaborative efforts aimed at supporting the long-term well-being and resilience of communities across Renfrew County.
The event was hosted in partnership with the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce, Algonquin College Pembroke Campus, the County of Renfrew and the Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation.
The organizations said they remain committed to continuing regional dialogue, strengthening partnerships and advancing initiatives that support inclusive and thriving communities.
Further updates on action plans and collaborative projects are expected as the work continues.
