Pembroke Regional Hospital says all patient care and hospital services continue to operate normally following a fire that broke out early Sunday morning.
In a news release, hospital officials say the fire occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on one of the hospital’s smaller inpatient units. Staff quickly contained the fire and safely evacuated all patients from the affected area.
Patients from the unit have been temporarily relocated to other clinical areas within the hospital because of water damage. Hospital officials say they are hopeful those patients will be able to return to the unit later today.
PRH President and CEO Sabine Mersmann, who was on site as part of the hospital’s Incident Command Centre, praised the swift response of the Pembroke Fire Department, Renfrew County Paramedic Service, hospital staff and physicians for helping ensure patient safety.
The hospital is assuring residents that all programs, services and patient care remain fully operational.
