Participants at a past Krista Johnson Memorial Run.
A major fundraising event for a local youth centre is set for this weekend, with the goal of bringing in $30,000.
The Krista Johnson Memorial Run is set to take place in Pembroke on Sunday, June 7th, raising money for the Elevate Youth Wellness Centre, a free fitness centre for people ages 11 to 17 in Pembroke.
Organizer Laurie Johnson says the run is held every year in memory of her daughter, who tragically passed away at the age of 27.
The run has been held annually in Pembroke since 2013, bringing in the money to help keep the facility running for another year.
Johnson encourages prospective participants to visit the run’s website.
Beyond the four different distance runs, attractions will include an obstacle course and rock climbing wall for kids and a prize raffle.
If the community donates $30,000, that will cover the Elevate Youth Wellness Centre’s expenses for the next year, according to Johnson.
Donations to the centre are also accepted year-round on the memorial run website.
