It’s Pride Month and on Monday morning, Deep River District Health had its first-ever Pride flag raising ceremony.
The organization sees it as an opportunity to celebrate diversity, recognize the importance of inclusion within healthcare, and reaffirm DRDH’s commitment to creating spaces where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.
Dr. Doniya Quenneville says this first Pride flag raising is a meaningful milestone. The Doctor says “The flag is a visible symbol that 2SLGBTQ+ individuals are welcome, valued, and supported at DRDH and sends an important message that everyone deserves to feel safe and respected when seeking care.”
The organization is also launching and expanding Positive Spaces throughout its sites. Team members who participate in Positive Space training gain a deeper understanding of the unique barriers and challenges that 2SLGBTQ communities may face in healthcare settings, along with strategies to support more inclusive interactions and care experiences.
