The Big Give is coming back to Cobden’s Astrolabe Arena on June 6th.
There are five churches taking part – Cobden Pentecostal, Grace United, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian, St. Paul’s Anglican and Whitewater Wesleyan Community Church.
The Big Give was the brainchild of an Ottawa woman, who wanted to create a national day of generosity. Susan Gilchrist from Grace United says it’s a great way for churches to give back to their communities.
She says the event has grown every year since they first hosted it in 2017.
The Big Give is June 6th from 9am to noon. Activities include a free garage sale, Kid’s zone, coffee bar and BBQ, and a formal wear boutique where people can find a free grad dress or suit.
They are seeking donations for the garage sale and anyone with stuff to donate can drop it off at the arena on June 4th from 1p-6:30p and June 5th from 9a-3p. They are not accepting books (children’s books accepted), car seats, helmets, life jackets, large appliances or mattresses. However, they are looking for donations of clothing, toys, baby needs, towels, kitchenware, bedding, decor and household furnishings.
They are also looking for volunteers to help sort items.
