Pembroke Regional Hospital is welcoming a new doctor. Dr. Paulo Werlang is a Urologist who is splitting his time between Pembroke and the Ottawa Hospital’s Cancer Assessment Clinic. Werlang, originally from Brazil, says he was drawn to Pembroke because of the community’s welcoming environment and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while developing his skills in an area where there is a great need for his expertise. He says he grew up in a town even smaller than Pembroke and enjoys the peace of a rural community. Since opening his local practice last month, Dr. Werlang has been spending three days at PRH and two in Ottawa, where his wife and 11-year-old daughter are currently living. Werlang completed his Urology Residence and a Urologic Oncology Fellowship at the University of Ottawa. Pembroke Regional Hospital’s Chief of Staff Dr. Declan Rowan says Dr. Werlang bring a high level of expertise in urology, along with advanced training in oncology and minimally invasive procedures. Dr. Rowan goes on to say that “his experience, commitment to patient-centered care, and willingness to support innovation, including our upcoming Epic implementation, will be a tremendous asset to our professional staff team and to the patients we serve.”
