Stone Fence Theatre is returning to its roots in 2026 with a new musical comedy set in the historic village of Wilno, where the theatre company first began more than two decades ago.
The production, titled If You Don’t Know You Wilno!, is scheduled to open in July and run through October, with most performances taking place at the Rankin Culture and Recreation Centre near Pembroke.
The show is set in Wilno and draws inspiration from local history, community traditions and contemporary rural issues. Scenes take place in the village’s well-known tavern and at St. Mary’s Church, home of Wilno’s long-running chicken supper tradition.
According to the company, the story follows a wealthy developer who arrives in the village with plans to buy up local properties, sparking divided opinions among residents. At the same time, a once-successful local rock band reunites despite lingering tensions between its members.
The production features original songs inspired by Kashubian and Polish folk music traditions. Several musical numbers are based on songs recorded by the late Martha Linton of nearby Barry’s Bay.
The show was written by Stone Fence Theatre producer Ish Theilheimer, with contributions from Kathy Eisner and Johanna Zomers. Musical contributions were provided by Clint Degarie and Beverly Lewis.
Shirley Hill and Sarah Wright are serving as co-directors and choreographers for the production.
The cast includes returning Stone Fence Theatre performers Indy Baker, Jayson Bradshaw, David Green, Tabitha Green, Will March, Ambrose Mullin, Fran Pinkerton and Ryan Webster. The production also marks the return of Josh McCoy after a 10-year absence and introduces newcomers Angela Keller and Justine Thompson.
Live music for the production will feature March on fiddle and percussion, Mike Britton on bass and Theilheimer as musical director and keyboard player.
A special performance will be held Aug. 13 at St. Mary’s Church Parish Hall in Wilno. Two performances — July 30 and Oct. 17 — will also include dinners inspired by the traditional Wilno chicken supper.
More information and tickets are available through Stone Fence Theatre.
