A regional fundraising campaign aimed at supporting young people is underway across eastern Ontario and western Quebec.
United Way East Ontario, Centraide Outaouais and the National Bank of Canada have launched this year’s Move for Youth challenge, which runs through May 15.
Organizers say the initiative encourages participants to stay active while helping raise $150,000 and reach a collective goal of 150 million steps.
The campaign began six years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to keep people connected and active, and has continued to grow. To date, it has raised nearly $473,000 to support programs for young people, including access to safe spaces, mental health services, homework clubs and life skills training.
Organizers say many youth are facing increased challenges, including struggles in school, rising mental health concerns and financial barriers to extracurricular activities.
Participation in the challenge is free, with individuals and teams able to register and track their progress while competing for prizes tied to steps taken and funds raised.
Proceeds support year-round programming aimed at helping young people learn, grow and stay connected in their communities.
More information, including registration details, can be found on the Move for Youth website.
