Yesterday (April 30) the County of Renfrew hosted a “groundbreaking” ceremony to officially recognize the beginning of construction on a new paramedic base in the Township of Whitewater Region.
It will be built on the corner of Forester’s Falls Road and Mine View Road and will be the eighth paramedic base in the County.
The County of Renfrew Paramedic Service covers a primary response territory of more than 15,000 square kilometres.
County warden, Jennifer Murphy, thanks council staff for taking the time to find a suitable location.
“Your careful evaluation of options ensured we landed on a location that will serve our Paramedics and our residents well for years to come,” Murphy said, “this milestone is possible because of your hard work and we are truly grateful.”
Paramedic chief, Michael Nolan, said this advancement is an important step forward in regards to maintaining proper care for nearby residents because of the increase in local paramedics.
Nolan said the new base will also host a Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre at this location.
Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP Billy Denault was showing support as well.
“I’m proud to advocate for investments that strengthen local infrastructure and support the frontline workers who keep our communities safe,” Denault said.
The contract was awarded to R.K. Porter General Contracting and the design calls for a 5,700 square foot space with four vehicles bays.
The County expects the building to be complete and fully operational by 2027.
