It’s often said that public speaking is one of the most feared activities in the world — but not for 12-year-old Highview Public School student Tejasveer Persoo.
Tejasveer won first place in his category at what is referred to as the “Branch” level at RCL Branch 72 here in Pembroke, where he also earned first place in Area Public Speaking. He then advanced through the District level and will now take part in the Provincials to be held in Napanee.
Tejasveer describes, in his own words, what inspired him to compete at such a young age:
Tejasveer went on to say that failure can help you realize where you’ve fallen short and what it will take to succeed. Wise words from such a young man.
The first leg of the competition involved schools from Pembroke, Rockwood, Champlain, and Highview. The Zone level then encompassed all of Renfrew County. Tejasveer defeated two contestants at the Area level to qualify for Provincials, where he will be one of four finalists.
Tejasveer’s parents, Sheshan and Nirmala, who hail from Mauritania, say pride is the number one emotion they feel as they watch their gifted son rise:
Tejasveer also took time to acknowledge the volunteers at RCL Branch 72 for their involvement:
The Provincial Finals will be held in Napanee this Saturday, May 2. Good luck to Tejasveer and all of the talented youth competing.
