Flood barriers have been installed along a stretch of roadway at risk of flooding in Whitewater Region. The yellow barriers, produced by a company called GlobalMedic, were installed on Thursday along the LaCroix Bay Causeway. The barriers are meant to not only keep flood water off the road but also actively push the water in the other direction. According to a post on social media by Whitewater Region, the barriers had immediate results in low-lying areas that had been experiencing flooding. Now that the water is being diverted away from the road, residents have safe access through the area and emergency services can respond if needed. The County of Renfrew Paramedic Service Sierra Team is now doing wellness checks in flood-affected areas. The GlobalMedic team also brought along a sandbagging machine and trained firefighters how to use it so additional sandbagging could take place over the weekend. Township officials say they’re continuing to closely monitor water levels and is reassuring the public that proactive steps are being taken to protect the community.
