Police in the Upper Ottawa Valley are reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert as construction season ramps up across the region.
The Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police says motorists should use caution when entering construction zones and follow all posted signage and directions from traffic control personnel.
Officers note it is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act to ignore STOP or SLOW instructions from workers managing traffic.
Reduced speed limits are commonly posted in construction areas to protect workers and account for hazards such as heavy equipment, uneven pavement and narrowed lanes.
Police also remind drivers that speeding fines are doubled when workers are present.
Motorists can check current road conditions and construction updates through Ontario’s 511 traveller information service by phone or online.
