Earth Day is a little brighter for the team at CHEO this year as they celebrate a $2-million donation from BMO to support sustainability initiatives, including Phase 1 redevelopment and the future of low-carbon pediatric care.
Representatives from BMO, CHEO and the CHEO Foundation gathered at CHEO on Wednesday for Leading the Future of Sustainable Care: An Earth Day Celebration of Collective Impact—an initiative emphasizing a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and advancing climate-focused innovation in healthcare.
Hundreds of CHEO staff gathered for a complimentary breakfast, followed by a panel discussion on sustainability and pediatric care innovation, moderated by Steve Read, president and CEO of the CHEO Foundation. Read says the infusion of capital will go a long way toward keeping the hospital at the forefront of medical care in the province and across Canada:
BMO’s contribution will help address two key challenges in advancing sustainable healthcare: building future-ready infrastructure, including facilities, products and equipment, and developing sophisticated carbon accounting tools to track progress and inform decision-making. Read says the long-standing partnership with BMO is a natural fit, as both organizations share similar long-term visions:
CHEO is also proud to have been named Canada’s best healthcare employer by Forbes in 2024 and 2025. The organization is home to more than 6,500 staff, clinicians, scientists, researchers and volunteers, all working together to help children and youth achieve their best lives.
