Municipalities are responding as rising water levels continue to affect communities along the Ottawa River.
As the spring thaw increases flows on local waterways, municipal staff are closing roads and opening sandbagging stations across the Ottawa Valley. Here’s a list of things to know, current up to 12:00 pm on Monday, April 20th.
ARNPRIOR:
- Flooding has closed Mclean Avenue from Riverview Drive to Chats Crescent, as well as Riverview Drive/McLean Ave. closed from Lena St. to Chats Cr. A detour is available through McNab Street.
- A sandbag station has been set up in the Diamond 1 parking lot of McLean Park, accessible through McNab Street across from the Macnamara Trail.
BRUDNELL, LYNDOCH, AND RAGLAN:
- Palmer Dam completely opened last week, resulting in increased water levels.
- Tag Alder Lane was closed on the weekend due to water levels, while Cedar Grove Road remained passible despite pooling water.
- Sandbags are available at the municipal office.
BONNECHERE VALLEY:
- Repairs to Gorman Road and Ruby Road were completed on Friday, April 17th by county staff following a significant washout caused by flooding
HORTON:
- Sand and sandbags remain available at the Johnston Road Public Works garage for residents to fill, daily from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm.
LAURENTIAN VALLEY:
- Sullivan Point Road is currently closed due to overland flooding. Local and Emergency Vehicles Only.
- Township staff have established a sandbag filling station at 630 Forest Park Road, George Matheson Park.
McNAB/BRAESIDE:
- Dewar Avenue is closed to through traffic at Mast Road, to Archibald Street, to Caruso Circle. Local traffic only.
- Sand and sandbags are available at the Braeside Public Works Garage, 721 River Road
PEMBROKE:
- If you require sand and bags for your property, contact the City of Pembroke Operations Department at 613-735-6821 ext. 1409. Provide your name, address, and the approximate number of bags required.
PETAWAWA:
- Rantz Road along Black Bay, from Shamess Road to Shamess Road will be closed to traffic due to high water levels, local traffic and emergency services vehicles permitted.
- Four sandbagging stations have been established to help residents at South Shore Drive, MacGregors Bay Trail, Shamess Road, and the Melody Trail
WHITEWATER REGION:
Township staff have reported a number of flooded roads and trails, including:
- Thibeau Trail from end of road to 82 m southwest of end of road
- Sunset Trail from 236 m southwest of end of road to end of road
- Edgewater Trail from end of road to 42 m southwest of Mcwitt Trail
- Greatview Trail from end of road to end of road
- Vizena Trail from Rapid Road to end of road
- Sinkhole Trail from 72 m northeast of end of road to end of road
- Gervais Road from 170 m south of end of road to end of road
- Big Island Trail from 30 m south of Lemaire Trail to 61 m north of end of road
Sand and sandbags are available for residents at the Westmeath Garage, 1798 Westmeath Road.
