The Town of Petawawa is inviting artists from across the Ottawa Valley to help transform a new public art installation into a vibrant community landmark.
Officials say a three-dimensional letter sign spelling “PETAWAWA,” to be installed at the Petawawa Comfort Station, will serve as a rotating canvas for local creatives.
Christine Mitchell, manager of economic development for the Town of Petawawa, is spearheading the project, which she says has been in the works for nearly three years.
The initiative aims to showcase regional talent, animate public space, and encourage community engagement, with artists asked to submit concepts reflecting the area’s culture, landscape, and identity.
Mitchell says the Town has received well over 25 requests from local artists to design the landmark, which she describes as very encouraging. All last-minute entries will be considered alongside those already received, she adds.
Mitchell also says that, in addition to the winning design, there will be a secondary award offering a paid opportunity to another selected artist.
