Petawawa residents will soon be able to check out a variety of unique vendors maintaining small retail spaces for periods of time throughout the summer.
The Petawawa Container Market opens to the public for its fifth year on May 1st.
Town of Petawawa Economic Development Manager explained that the market offers vendors the opportunity to use some repurposed shipping containers in the heart of the community as a retail space for a few weeks at a time:
According to Mitchell, the idea that eventually became the Container Market program began before the pandemic, with the intent of encouraging further development in the downtown area:
Once the pandemic was underway, the concept was reworked into something similar to how the Container Market exists today. Mitchell says plans still exist to bring it closer to the original idea one day:
After the market opens, it will run on Fridays from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. until mid-October. According to Mitchell, the vendors themselves aren’t the only attractions, with some additional entertainment booked for select dates:
According to Mitchell, the Town is still looking for “tent-in” participants interested in setting up tents and operating as vendors on select dates. Anyone interested in learning more or registering can visit the Town of Petawawa’s website.
