The City of Pembroke is urging residents to be environmentally conscious this April.
April 22nd is Earth Day, and to mark the occasion, the city’s Mayor has declared April to be “Earth Month” in the city.
Ann McKay, the Chairperson of Pembroke’s Beautification and Climate Action Committee, explained that the decision to extend the environmental observance beyond Earth Day started a couple of years ago:
A wide variety of challenges and ideas for environmentally conscious changes to residents’ routines are included in that calendar, McKay said:
Other challenges include learning more about environmental organizations, purchasing local produce at a farmer’s market rather than a grocery store, and trying outdoor activities like birdwatching.
McKay hopes Earth Month will encourage people to become more environmentally conscious year-round:
McKay encourages residents to visit the Beautification and Climate Action Committee’s Facebook page for more information on Earth Month and other community initiatives focused on the environment.
